Arab Bridge Maritime Co to start new Jordan - Egypt sea and land bridge service
Just before Christmas, Amman-based Arab Bridge Maritime Co’s (ABMC) general manager, Adnan Al-Abadleh, announced that the company is to start a new sea and land bridge service between the Jordanian port of Aqaba and Egypt’s ports that border the Mediterranean Sea – Alexandria, Port Said and Damietta.
La Méridionale opens a new regular line between L’Ile-Rousse and Toulon
As of 6 April 2024, La Méridionale is opening a new regular line with KALLISTE between mainland Toulon and L’Ile-Rousse, Corsica. Three rotations per week are planned, which will be reinforced in high season by a fourth with a stopover in Livorno, Italy.
Five ships under construction for American Cruise Lines
American Cruise Lines announced that it currently has five more new ships under construction, all scheduled for delivery over the next two years. These are in addition to the three ships the Line took delivery of this year. All five ships will be for the U.S. market and will include a mix of American Riverboats and Coastal Cats. The new ships will further American’s expansion on the coasts and renew its focus on the Mississippi and Columbia Rivers, where the Line’s acclaimed modern riverboats lead the U.S. market.
Japan-based Ryobi Holdings to build a new cruise ship in Portugal
Ryobi Holdings, an Okayama-based transport company under Ryobi Holdings Group entered into an engagement on 20 December 2023, with the Portuguese shipbuilder West Sea to build a new cruise ship.
The new ship will be between 9,000gt and 10,000gt and about 110 to 120 metres in length, 19 metres in width, and 4.7 metres in draft. She will be able to carry about 120 passengers in about 60 cabins, based on double occupancy, and about 100 crew members at service speed of 15 knots.
Baleària exercise option to buy RUSADIR
Baleària announced that they exercised an option to buy the LNG ro-pax RUSADIR, which has been chartered by them from Siem Industries since April this year. RUSADIR, which operates on the Malaga-Melilla route, has capacity for 1,670 passengers and up to 2,600 lane metres of cargo. RUSADIR was initially ordered by Brittany Ferries at Flensburger Schiffbau Gesellshaft (FSG) to become HONFLEUR.
DFDS to close down its Calais - Tilbury service
DFDS’ service between Calais and Tilbury will cease with effect from 1 January 2024, citing operational difficulties and a challenging market development. Effective from Monday 18 December 2023, DFDS re-commence their unaccompanied trailer services between Calais and Dover. DFDS now offer both accompanied and unaccompanied services across the Channel through Dover-Dunkerque and Dover-Calais.
Norled to build three new battery-hybrid ferries after winning tenders
Norled won the tender for the ferry connections Stokkvågen-Lovund and Stokkvågen-Træna with intermediate locations after delivering a concept that cuts emissions by up to 90 percent. Three new battery-hybrid ferries will enter the connection in 2027.
The three newbuildings will become 84.5m long and 15m wide, and each have capacity for 60 cars and 250 passengers including crew.
The battery capacity for each of the ferries is approximately 8,000 kWh, making them the ferries with the largest battery capacity in Norway.

両備ホールディングスは2023年12月20日、ポルトガルのWest Seaにクルーズ船(9,000gtから10,000gt)1隻を発注した。この「ヨットスタイル客船」は、ポルトガルのViana do Castelo造船所で建造され、2027年に引き渡される。契約は1億ユーロ相当。
津軽海峡フェリー(株)
津軽海峡フェリーは2023年12月26日、青森―室蘭航路を2024年1月13日から3月26日、4月3日から4月16日まで運休すると発表した。この期間中に、同航路を単独で運航しているブルー・マーメイドに個室66室を増設する。
