Tallink Grupp Q1 2024 financial results

Tallink Grupp published its unaudited financial results for the first quarter of 2024, revealing an unaudited net profit of EUR 2.6 million, which is a 147.4% improvement on last year’s Q1 result of a net loss totalling EUR 5.4 million. The group’s unaudited consolidated revenue decreased by 6.3% compared to the same period in 2023 and totalled EUR 160.4 million (EUR 171.2 million in Q1 2023). The group’s unaudited EBITDA has improved again year-on-year and reached a total of EUR 34.5 million in Q1 2024, which is a 27.2% increase compared to the same period last year (EUR 27.1 million in Q1 2023).

30th anniversary Eckerö Line: Turnover increased by 16%, milestone of two million passengers reached in 2023

Eckerö Line published information on its financial development in 2023. The company's turnover was EUR 140 million, an increase of 16% from 2022. The year was also successful by other measures. Eckerö Line's passenger volume passed the milestone of two million passengers for the first time last year. Freight operations' market share also increased. 60% of the freight that Eckerö Line transports already goes via the North Sea port, which reduces congestion in the center of Helsinki and Tallinn.

Royal Caribbean Group Q1 2024 financial results

Total revenues for Royal Caribbean Group were USD 3.7 billion (USD 2.9 billion), Net Income was USD 360 million (USD -48 million), Adjusted EBITDA was USD 1.2 billion (USD 642 million). Stronger than anticipated demand led to a record WAVE season and continued strength in bookings in April from both a volume and pricing standpoint. This robust booking environment across all key itineraries coupled with continued strength in onboard spend, led to higher revenue versus guidance in the first quarter and a further improvement in full year yield expectations.

Telenor Maritime and AT&T has signed a new roaming agreement

Telenor Maritime, in collaboration with AT&T, announced a new initiative that will transform the onboard experience for cruise and ferry passengers worldwide. Passengers can now enjoy transparent, affordable and seamless connectivity at sea, mirroring the comfort and convenience of home usage.

The launch of AT&T's Cruise IDP (International Day Pass) enables passengers to utilize their phones effortlessly, with the freedom to stay connected just as they do on land, without the worry of bill shocks.

The Grimaldi Group takes delivery of the GREAT ABIDJAN

The fourth multipurpose G5 con-ro vessel was delivered to the Grimaldi Group at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co. Ltd shipyard in Ulsan (South Korea). Named GREAT ABIDJAN, she will operate between Northern Europe and West Africa.
The Grimaldi Group has also inaugurated its new Shanghai offices.

With length of 250 metres, beam of 38 metres and deadweight of 45,684 tonnes, the design of the GREAT ABIDJAN is the result of a careful study of the needs of the Group and its customers: thanks to an innovative and completely customized internal configuration, the G5-class ships are able to transport 4,700 linear metres of rolling freight, 2,500 CEUs and 2,000 TEUs. Compared to the previous G4-class, the new vessels have the same capacity for rolling freight while their container capacity is double.

Tallink Silja Line’s new buffet menu offers a flavourful invitation to the nicest summer picnic at sea

Ahead of the peak travelling season, Tallink Silja Line has launched a new buffet menu, featuring the „Summer Picnic“ theme table, available in the Grande Buffet restaurant onboard the company’s cruise vessels operating on the Estonia-Sweden, Finland-Sweden and Estonia-Finland routes. Onboard the company’s shuttle service vessels, operating between Tallinn and Helsinki, the new buffet menu is offered in the Delight Buffet restaurant. The new buffet menu is available onboard the company vessels until 15 April 2025.

Tallink Grupp takes another step towards more sustainable vessel operations with nauticAi electronic logbooks

Tallink Grupp has recently rolled out nauticAi’s electronic logbook solution across its entire fleet, following a successful prototype development and pilot process of the system on the company’s Paldiski-Kapellskär cargo vessel SAILOR in 2023. The new solution enables the company's vessels to log a whole range of data electronically instead of physical traditional paper logbooks, including fuel consumption data, garbage (discharge) data, ship's radio watch data, ballasting operations, fuel bunkering operations and so much more. The new electronic solution shares data with on shore back-office support functions, making real-time vessel and voyage data available for everyone who needs it in the company for better ongoing monitoring and operational efficiencies and improvements.

Viking Line Q1 2024 financial results

Consolidated sales decreased 0.7% to EUR 93.2m during the period 1 January–31 March, 2024 (EUR 93.9m). Operating income totalled EUR -10.4m (EUR -0.9m). Consolidated income before tax was EUR -14.2m (EUR -4.6m). The comparative figures include the capital gain from the sale of ROSELLA, which was EUR 8.6m. Income before tax excluding the capital gain in 2023 was EUR -13.2m.

DFDS initiates hybrid-electric ro-pax vessel design study with Incat for Channel Island tender

DFDS has entered into an agreement with Incat, to conduct a design study for a hybrid-electric ferry intended to be deployed for the Channel Islands, if DFDS wins an upcoming tender for the future ferry services on the Islands. The initiative is a part of the DFDS’ efforts to contribute to the decarbonisation of maritime transport.

VARSOVIA interior photos

Polferries released some interior photos of their new VARSOVIA which is being built at the Visentini Shipyard in Italy.

The NAOS-designed VARSOVIA will be 216m long and have a capacity for 920 passengers and 2,940 lane metres of freight. It is scheduled for delivery in June and to enter service between Swinoujscie-Ystad in July.

The MSC Foundation, The MSC Group and Mercy Ships International join forces to build a new hospital ship

A groundbreaking agreement between MSC Group, MSC Foundation and the charity Mercy Ships International prepares for the construction of a brand-new hospital ship that will deliver free surgery and training annually to thousands of people in Africa. On 8 April, the chairman of MSC Group and MSC Foundation, Capt. Gianluigi Aponte, Diego Aponte, MSC Group President and Member of the MSC Foundation Board, and Mercy Ships Founder Don Stephens finalised an agreement to kickstart this new project with a generous anchor donation from MSC, reflecting the visionary leaders’ commitment to supporting access to critical healthcare for the generations to come.

P&O Europoort launches Surikat's Fast Gate Solution for improved efficiency and customer service

Surikat announced the successful launch of its automated Fast Gate solution at P&O Ferries in Europoort. The collaboration will be a step forward for P&O Ferries in improving efficiency, data management, and customer service for freight operations at the port, encompassing both road and rail transportation.

Cunard officially welcomes new ship QUEEN ANNE

On 19 April, the 3,000-guest ship QUEEN ANNE officially joined Cunard’s fleet during a handover ceremony in Italy at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard in the presence of Italian Minister of Enterprises and Made in Italy, Adolfo Urso, and Italian Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani.

As the newest addition to the Cunard fleet, QUEEN ANNE's design concepts have been founded on heritage, craftmanship, style, storytelling, and innovation, and the 114,000gt ship, which spans 14 decks, will offer travellers many experiences.

DFDS appoints Karen Dyrskjøt Boesen as new CFO

Karen Dyrskjøt Boesen has been appointed new CFO for the DFDS Group starting on 1 July 2024. She replaces Karina Deacon as CFO following her resignation in November 2023.

Karen will join Torben Carlsen in the Group’s Executive Board as well as the Executive Management Team.

Karen comes from a position as Group CFO at Sonnedix that is a leading international renewable solar and wind energy producer.

FRS Clipper unveils new management team

FRS Clipper welcomes Mark Collins as the incoming Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for FRS Clipper in Canada and Chair of the Board for FRS Clipper, in the US effective 1 May 2024. FRS Clipper’s Chief Operating Officer, Gordon Dirker is also being promoted to CEO for FRS Clipper’s US entities, as of 1 May 2024.

H2 Energy and DFDS publish new hydrogen propulsion feasibility study

During the past year, H2 Energy and DFDS have worked together on a project to analyse the feasibility of retrofitting large ferries with a hydrogen propulsion system. Now, the project has been finalized contributing with important knowledge for further analysis on the use of hydrogen as an alternative fuel for sea and road transport. The project was supported by the Danish Maritime Fund.

The first of two 6,500 CEU PCTCs for Wallenius Marine has been delivered

FUTURE WAY, the first of two Knud E. Hansen-designed dual fuel LNG PCTCs for Wallenius Marine, has been delivered from the CIMC Raffles shipyard in China. The 6,500 CEU capacity PCTC will be long-term chartered to the VW Group and will be followed by the sister ship WAY FORWARD in a few months.

Scenic Group unveils its next luxury yacht, EMERALD KAIA

Scenic Group has unveiled its next generation luxury ocean yacht for Emerald Cruises', an enlarged version of the two Vietnamese-built sister ships EMERALD AZZURRA and EMERALD SAKARA. Whilst the two sisters measure 110 metres in length and have a capacity for 100 passengers, EMERALD KAIA grows to 120 metres and increases its passenger capacity to 128.

EMERALD KAIA will set sail in April 2026.

DFDS March 2024 volumes

March volume numbers are compared to 2023 impacted by most of the Easter holiday period falling in March this year compared to April in 2023. In general, this increases passenger volumes and decreases freight volumes compared to 2023 for the month.

Ferry – freight: Total volumes in March 2024 were 2.7% above 2023 and down 2.5% adjusted for the addition of Strait of Gibraltar routes in 2024 and closure of the Calais-Tilbury route in 2023.

Ferry – passenger: The number of passengers in March 2024 were 83.1% above 2023 and up 38.4% adjusted for the addition of Strait of Gibraltar routes. The adjusted increase was driven by the Easter timing difference. The number of cars were 67.5% above 2023 and up 29.6% adjusted for Strait of Gibraltar.
