Irish Continental Group Plc trading update
Irish Continental Group plc issued its unaudited trading update which covers carryings for the year to date to 23 November 2024 and financial information for the first ten months of 2024. Total revenues for the ferries division in the period to 31 October amounted to EUR 375.8 million (EUR 352.9 million) (including intra-division charter income). For the year to 23 November, Irish Ferries carried 657,000 cars (592,100 cars) and freight carryings were 702,800 ro-ro units (651,900 units).
Steel cut ceremony held for Torghatten Nord’s first of two new electric ferries at Özata Shipyard
A steel cut ceremony has been held at the Turkish Özata Shipyard for MISTERØY, the first of two electric ferries for Torghatten Nord. MISTERØY and sister FLØYTIND will each have a battery capacity of 1,960 kWh and are built to a design of The Norwegian Ship Design Company.
The ferries will be 76.85 metres long and will have a capacity to carry 202 passengers and 60 vehicles.

Havila Kystruten AS Q3 2024 quarterly report
Havila Kystruten AS (Havila Voyages) presented its Q3 2024 quarterly report showing revenues totalled at NOK 464 million, a substantial increase compared to NOK 225 million in the same period last year. This represents a 62% growth when adjusted for the increase in the number of ships in operation. Havila Voyages' two latest ships, HAVILA POLARIS and HAVILA POLLUX, began operations in August 2023.
Kenneth Gustavsson is appointed as the new CEO of Gotland Alandia Cruises
Kenneth Gustavsson becomes the new CEO of Gotland Alandia Cruises, which operates the cruise ship BIRKA GOTLAND. The ship, which entered service with new owners in March this year, cruises between Stockholm, Åland, Gotland and a number of other Baltic Sea destinations. - The goal is to fully put BIRKA GOTLAND on the map as the Baltic Sea's best cruise experience, says Kenneth Gustavsson.
Cargotec sells MacGregor business to funds managed by Triton
Cargotec has signed an agreement to sell its MacGregor business area to funds managed by Triton, for an enterprise value of EUR 480 million to support Hiab's future growth. As the agreement to sell MacGregor has been signed, Cargotec's Board of Directors is planning to propose to Cargotec's General Meeting of shareholders that the company's name would be changed from Cargotec to Hiab.
Malin Collin will be the new CEO of Port of Trelleborg
Malin Collin is appointed as new CEO of the Port of Trelleborg. She replaces current CEO Jörgen Nilsson, who has chosen to move on to new challenges.
The board of Port of Trelleborg has unanimously appointed Malin Collin as the new CEO and is convinced that Malin is the right person to drive the development of the company further forward.
Wallenius Marine's new WAY FORWARD ready for her first mission

IMG Insotel Marine Group and MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company seal an alliance for the ferry market in Spain
The Balearic group IMG, which includes the shipping companies Trasmapi, Formentera Lines, Formentera Cargo, and Menorca Lines, has agreed with Mediterranean Shipping Company to create an alliance for the joint analysis and development of various passenger routes and fleet expansion, mainly of HSC vessels, with the aim of enriching the offer of fast-ferry services in Spain, through its boutique proposal with maximum local focus in the communities where they operate.
GLEN SANNOX finally handed over to Caledonian Maritime Assets
CalMac Ferries Limited master Michael Mackinnon raised the red ensign to mark this milestone after the final paperwork was signed last night. GLEN SANNOX obtained her passenger certificate and full regulatory approval on Tuesday.
The 102-metre dual fuel ferries will be able to operate on both LNG and marine diesel with its Wärtsilä engines. The ships are designed to carry 127 cars or 16 HGVs, or a combination of both.
Gotlandsbolaget Q3 2024 report
Gotlandsbolaget reported that revenues in Q3 2024 amounted to SEK 1,002.7 million (968.5) and costs to SEK -695.1 million (-690.9). Adjusted operating profit amounted to SEK 318.2 million (277.6).
The improvement is primarily due to stronger results in the Gotland traffic but has also been negatively impacted by costs related to the takeover of the new line. The result has also been positively affected during the period by our operations related to BIRKA GOTLAND.
Brittany Ferries unveils 2025 summer schedule between Guernsey, UK and France
Following the approval of its licence by the States of Guernsey, Brittany Ferries, now majority shareholder of Condor, is charting a new course for Condor and the Island, starting with publication of its summer 2025 schedule. Following launch of 2025 schedules, the company will start taking bookings at on Tuesday 26 November for sailings linking Poole, Portsmouth, Guernsey and St Malo from 28 March through to 30 September 2025.

We consider this action to be disrespectful both towards the port authority in charge of supervising the process and towards the potentially affected workers, who deserve this tender to be resolved in a transparent and legal manner.

Baleària pressrelease: "Baleària has been awarded the contract to operate the intercontinental shipping line between Tarifa and Tangier Ville, following the opening of the financial offers and the evaluation of the techniques last Friday. Baleària has submitted the most sustainable and innovative offer to the competition, with an investment of EUR 135 million in the construction of two zero-emission electric fast ferries with capacity for 800 passengers, the electrification of the ports and the battery recharging system. The construction of these two electric catamarans will be carried out at Astilleros Armon in Gijón and will last two and a half years."
DFDS agrees new terms and completes Turkish logistics acquisition
DFDS has completed the acquisition of the international transport network of Ekol Logistics. Ekol Logistics is a leading Turkish transport and logistics company headquartered in Istanbul.
The acquisition is based on a revised set of terms agreed since the termination of the share purchase agreement on 1 November 2024. The main change in terms relates to the amount of debt included in the transaction. In addition, DFDS now has an option to extend the duration of the terminal agreement with Yalova Port.
Baleària strengthens connections between the Balearic Islands and the Peninsula during the Christmas holidays
Baleària will expand its connections between the Balearic Islands and the Peninsula between 21 December and 12 January with a schedule adapted to meet the high passenger demand during the Christmas holidays. Baleària will reinforce its services from Ibiza to Dénia on weekends and from Menorca and Mallorca to Barcelona during the week.
Fred. Olsen’s new cargo ship begins to operate between Tenerife and the islands of the province of Las Palmas
Fred. Olsen Cargo Express' new ro-ro vessel, the BAHIA CARGO, has begun to connect the islands of the province of Las Palmas and Tenerife. Its incorporation is part of the investment made by the company to strengthen its freight transport service with two new specialized vessels, thus guaranteeing the supply of the Canary Islands and greater availability of space for its clients.
SWITCH Maritime advances first liquid hydrogen vessel project in the US
SWITCH Maritime, the US shipowner that successfully launched the first H2 powered ferry in the US, is pushing ahead with its next zero-emission vessel project. In collaboration with LH2 Shipping and LMG Marin in Norway, SWITCH plans to commence the US construction of the existing 80-car, 300-passenger ro-pax ferry design (Norled's HYDRA) that is successfully operating in Norway on liquid hydrogen (LH2) fuel.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen signs USD 580 million multi-year shipping contract
Wallenius Wilhelmsen has signed a USD 580 million multi-year shipping contract with a leading automotive manufacturer. "This demonstrates their commitment to securing long-term ocean capacity and will further strengthen our partnership," says Pia Synnerman, Chief Customer Officer at Wallenius Wilhelmsen.
Fincantieri holds steel cut ceremony for new Sicily region ro-pax
A steel cut ceremony has been held by Fincantieri for the Sicily Region's new EUR 114.6 million ro-pax, which will provide service between Lampedusa and Pantelleria.
The new Naos-designed vessel will be entirely built in the Palermo shipyard, delivered in 2026, and will serve routes between Sicily and the islands of Lampedusa and Pantelleria. The ferry will have a length of about 140 metres and a gross tonnage of about 14,500. It will be able to reach a maximum speed of 19 knots and a capacity of 1,000 people and 200 cars on board. It will be equipped with a dual fuel LNG engine and also have a photovoltaic system that, thanks to energy storage in a battery pack, will ensure that it will stay in port with zero emissions for about four hours.
Gasum selects Wärtsilä for another bioLNG project in Sweden
Wärtsilä Gas Solutions, part of Wärtsilä, will supply Nordic energy company Gasum with biogas upgrading and liquefaction solutions for their new bioLNG plant. The plant will produce high-quality bioLNG from agricultural and organic household waste.
When operational, the Wärtsilä offering will be capable of producing 25 tonnes of bioLNG per day. bioLNG is formed by purifying biogas to high-quality bio methane before it is liquefied at minus 160 °C.
Telenor Maritime signs agreement with Gotlandsbolaget
Telenor Maritime announced that it will continue providing its connectivity solutions on board DFDS's PEARL SEAWAYS and CROWN SEAWAYS, two vessels recently acquired by Gotlandsbolaget (Alvina Shipping AS). Keel laying ceremony marks the birth date of new ships for Scilly
A ceremony attended by dignitaries has marked the official 'birth date' for the two new ships which will serve the Penzance to Isles of Scilly route for the Isles of Scilly Steamship Group (ISSG). This significant milestone in the build process has been recognised for centuries as the official 'birth' of any new ship and is an important point in time for the SCILLONIAN IV passenger ferry and the cargo vessel, MENAWETHAN.
Wallenius Wilhelmsen exercise options for two additional 11,700 CEU Shaper vessels and intends to upsize an additional two
Wallenius Wilhelmsen has declared an option for two additional 11,700 CEU Shaper class vessels at China Merchants Jingling Shipyard Co., Ltd. The two declared options are part of the four previously announced outstanding options. Delivery is expected in H2 2028. As part of the agreement, Wallenius Wilhelmsen will continue to hold options for two more vessels declarable by H2 2025.

Fincantieri and Crystal announced the finalization of an order for the construction of one state-of-the-art high-end cruise ship, following the exercise of the option granted under the two-unit agreements disclosed to the market on 27 June. The value of this agreement, subject to financing and other terms and conditions, is considered as large.

The Finnlines Group's revenue in January–September 2024 amounted to EUR 547.2 (513.2 in 2023) million. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, EBITDA, amounted to EUR 140.8 (131.7) million.

DFDS reported that revenue was up 11% to DKK 8.0bn in Q3, with organic growth at 4%. EBIT was reduced 11% to DKK 785m. Adjusted free cash flow of DKK 396m and CO2 ferry emission intensity lowered 1.6%.
Armas Trasmediterránea will operate the lines that link Melilla with Almería and Motril
Armas Trasmediterránea will operate the maritime lines that connect Melilla with the cities of Almería and Motril, two lines declared a public service obligation (OSP) by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.
The Directorate General of the Merchant Navy awarded the two routes for the next two years (plus two additional years), which Armas Trasmediterránea will begin to operate from January 2025.
Damen lays keel for first two of four fully electric ferries for BC Ferries
Damen Shipyards Galati in Romania laid the keel for the first two of four 81m fully electric ferries for BC Ferries. The keel laying ceremony marked an important milestone in the third phase of construction of the Island Class Ferries, which will bring the total number of Damen vessels in the BC Ferries fleet to 10.
During the recent second phase of the programme, Damen delivered four hybrid diesel-electric ferries. These reduced emissions vessels were intended to pave the way to the development of fully electric vessels.
DFDS launches a new freight ferry service between Italy and Egypt
DFDS launches a new direct ferry service between Egypt and Italy, marking a significant expansion in the Mediterranean region. The establishment of a reliable and efficient connection between Damietta in Egypt and Trieste in Italy will support the trade flows between North Africa and Europe.
With the introduction of this new line between Egypt and Italy, DFDS is integrating Egypt into its service network for the first time and launching the first freight ferry service between these markets in around a decade.
Stena Line terminates 80 positions and 30 consultants due to high inflation and increased costs
Stena Line announced that they are launching a cost-cutting programme to be able to carry out necessary future investments. The programme includes the termination of 80 positions and around 30 consultants in 2025. High inflation and rising prices due to the introduction of the European Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) have resulted in reduced purchasing power for Stena Line's passengers and freight customers. This, in turn, has led to a decline in passenger and cargo unit volumes.
DFDS 2024 outlook lowered by market slowdown and termination of purchase of Ekol Logistics
DFDS' EBIT outlook range for 2024 is revised following results below expectations driven by mainly a more widespread slowdown in Europe than previously expected as well as intensified competition in northern European land transport markets, the Mediterranean freight ferry market and termination of purchase of Ekol Logistics.
The current market conditions are expected to continue for the rest of the year whilst a rebound in activity was previously expected for the rest of the year.
American Cruise Lines announces more newbuilds and AMERICAN LEGEND delivery
American Cruise Lines announced that it has signed contracts with Chesapeake Shipbuilding for four more new ships, bringing the Line's total orderbook with Chesapeake to 10 ships over the next three years. All the newbuilds are expressly for the U.S. cruise market.
The 10 new ships from Chesapeake begin with the delivery of AMERICAN LEGEND. The newest Coastal Cat in American's fleet passed sea trials and is on schedule for its first cruise on 25 November. The remaining newbuilds on order will roll out every few months over the next three years.
European Space Agency launches the DECARDIS project with Awake.AI, ABB and Wallenius Marine to optimize ship-port operations
The European Space Agency (ESA) has initiated a new flagship project, Decarbonization through the Digitalization in Shipping (DECARDIS), together with optimization platform company Awake.AI, technology leader ABB and shipping company Wallenius Marine. The consortium, funded by ESA and led by Awake.AI, will collaborate on a port call optimization solution, which focuses on helping ships cut greenhouse gas emissions by overcoming inefficiencies in the ship-port interaction.

The States of Guernsey's Committee for Economic Development has selected Brittany Ferries as the preferred bidder to provide lifeline sea links for the island. At this stage Guernsey and Jersey have not reached a shared view on how to proceed. However, the Committee wanted to provide certainty for island residents and businesses following the joint tender exercise run during the last 10 months jointly with the Government of Jersey.
