Royal Caribbean Group Q3 2024 results

Total revenues for Royal Caribbean Group in the third quarter were USD 4.9 billion (USD 4.2 billion), Net Income was USD 1.1 billion (USD 1 billion), Adjusted Net Income was USD 1.4 billion (USD 1.1 billion), and Adjusted EBITDA was USD 2.1 billion USD 1.7 billion. 2.3 million passengers were carried, up from 2 million the same quarter last year.

Newly introduced NextDF technology for Wärtsilä 25DF engine delivers very low methane emissions

Wärtsilä has introduced its NextDF feature for the Wärtsilä 25DF dual-fuel engine. While operating on liquefied natural gas (LNG), the NextDF feature reduces methane emissions to less than two per cent of fuel use across all load points, achieving as low as 1.1 per cent in a wide load range. What’s more, the nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions are lower than on the standard Wärtsilä 25DF engine which already has low emission levels below IMO Tier III.

MEYER WERFT hands over DISNEY TREASURE

MEYER WERFT delivered its new cruise ship, the DISNEY TREASURE, to Disney Cruise Line. DISNEY TREASURE features some of the most complex and innovative entertainment facilities in the cruise industry. The ship has been completed earlier than contractually agreed and will set sail with guests in December.

DISNEY TREASURE is the latest ship to join Disney Cruise Line’s fleet and the fifth Disney ship built by MEYER WERFT. MEYER WERFT and Disney Cruise Line have a longstanding relationship, that started with the DISNEY DREAM and DISNEY FANTASY, which were delivered in 2010 and 2012.

UME Shipping will be first delivery customer of REGENT’s Monarch seaglider

REGENT Craft, the manufacturer of all-electric seagliders, announced that United Marine Egypt (UME) Shipping will be the first delivery customer of its 50-100-passenger Monarch seaglider, with delivery targeted before the end of the decade. This deal builds on UME’s existing order for the 12-passenger Viceroy seagliders.

UECC signed newbuild contract for up to four multi-fuel battery hybrid PCTCs

United European Car Carriers (UECC) has signed a shipbuilding contract with China Merchants Jinling Shipyard Nanjing for two (+ two options) advanced multi-fuel battery hybrid pure car and truck carriers (PCTCs). The first two are vessels are scheduled for delivery in 2028.

Stena Line marks significant milestones in build of NewMax ships, STENA FUTURA and STENA CONNECTA

Stena held a joint launch and keel-laying ceremony at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Weihai, celebrating the release of STENA FUTURA into the water for the first time, and the laying of the keel for STENA CONNECTA, which marks the beginning of the build.

Once operational, STENA CONNECTA and STENA FUTURA will enhance freight capacity by 40% on the Belfast-Heysham route in response to an increase in customer demand for services between Northern Ireland and Great Britain.

The new owner of the Oslo-Fredrikshavn-Copenhagen line is investing heavily in the ships

Today, 31 October, Gotlandsbolaget takes over the line between Oslo and Copenhagen from DFDS. Extensive investments are now being made to upgrade the experience on board, with a focus on the cabins. In 2023, the line had around 700,000 passengers, and the goal for the coming years is to increase the number.

For the passengers, most things will be the same at first, as the development will take place step by step. For example, bookings will take place on the DFDS booking page also in 2025.

Carus Expands in the Mediterranean with Nouris el Bahr

Carus announced the launch of reservations and ticketing services for Nouris el Bahr Ferries, the newest ferry operator in the Mediterranean. Nouris el Bahr Ferries introduces the chartered CRACOVIA ferry, offering transport services between Algeria and key European destinations. With this service, Nouris el Bahr aims to transform the ferry industry in Algeria.

Viking Line’s CEO Jan Hanses to step down in 2025

The Board of Directors of Viking Line and CEO Jan Hanses have agreed that, as his retirement will occur in 2026, he will step down from the role of CEO in 2025 and then work as a senior advisor until his retirement in April 2026. The Board will therefore initiate a recruitment process to appoint a successor. Jan Hanses will serve as CEO until his successor takes office and has committed to ensuring a smooth transition to the new CEO in his role as senior advisor.

Viking Line Q3 2024 financial results

Viking Line’s Q3 2024 sales amounted to EUR 151.5 million (EUR 152.9 million). Other operating revenue was EUR 0.2 million (EUR 0.0 million). Operating income totalled EUR 29.4 million (EUR 35.3 million). Net financial items were EUR -1.0 million (EUR -1.1 million). Income before taxes totalled EUR 28.4 million (EUR 34.2 million). Income after taxes was EUR 24.9 million (EUR 27.6 million).

Rederi Ab Eckerö Q3 2024 financial results

Rederi Ab Eckerö Q3 2024 financial results show sales of EUR 72.2 million (EUR 69.4 million). Sales per passenger increased by 2% compared to the third quarter of the previous year. Operating result for the third quarter was the best ever, EUR 17.6 million, which is an increase of 26% compared to the same period last year (EUR 14.0 million). Result for the period amounted to EUR 13.6 million (EUR 9.9 million).

TwinShip project aims to improve access to reliable data for aiding in shipping decarbonisation

A consortium, including technology group Wärtsilä, will develop a new system for the maritime industry which is aimed at improving access to reliable data to enable smarter shipping decisions related to decarbonising fleet operations. The project, name ‘TwinShip’, is sponsored by the European Union (EU) and will run from 2025 until 2028.
