Finnlines’ 2024 financial statements
The Finnlines Group's revenue in January–December 2024 amounted to EUR 699.3 (680.7 in 2023) million, an increase of 3 per cent compared to the corresponding period in 2023. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation, EBITDA, amounted to EUR 162.0 (166.3) million. Three new methanol multi-fuel ro-pax vessels are considered which are planned to enter into service at the beginning of 2028.
Official launch of construction of La Méridionale’s new hybrid ro-paxes
A steel-cutting ceremony has been held at the CMI Jinling Weihai yard for the first of two new hybrid ro-paxes for La Méridionale. The ships are designed for the Marseille-Corsica and will be delivered in 2027.
Built at a combined contract price of close to EUR 400 million, each ship will accommodate 932 passengers across 264 cabins in seven categories, including 21 luxury cabins with balconies.
Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö 2024 financial results
Rederiaktiebolaget Eckerö had sales amounting to EUR 222.9 million in 2024 (EUR 221.5 million), while the operating result reached EUR 22.4 million (EUR 21.4 million). The number of cargo units reached 189,656 (176,351), and a total of 3,121,470 (3,140,221) passengers traveled with the company's vessels.
Torghatten AB signs contract with Työvene for two battery-hybrid passenger vessels
Defense and security technology group Summa Defence's target company Uudenkaupungin Työvene has signed a contract to build two battery-hybrid passenger vessels for Torghatten AB. The Multi Maritime AS-designed vessels will operate on Sweden's west coast between Strömstad and the Koster islands.
The total contract value exceeds EUR 20 million.
Resorts World Cruises announces major rebranding and new deployment
Resorts World Cruises revealed a significant rebranding initiative, transitioning its operations under the iconic StarCruises and Dream Cruises brands. The cruise line's ship, RESORTS WORLD ONE, has been renamed STAR NAVIGATOR and will operate under the StarCruises banner together with STAR VOYAGER, focusing on East Asian itineraries. Meanwhile, the GENTING DREAM will continue sailing as part of Dream Cruises.
DFDS awarded contract with Danish Defence
DFDS has entered an agreement with the Danish Defence to provide freight ferries for transport of military equipment. At a time of increasing geopolitical uncertainty, the partnership will support on military operations and missions. The contract extends the scope of the current contract and starts in 2026, running for up to six years.
Eight DFDS freight ferries (ro-ro) are to be made available for the transport of military equipment and other commodities for military operations, missions, training exercises, humanitarian disaster relief situations and routine transports.
Red Funnel and Artemis Technologies enter construction and delivery stage
Red Funnel Ferries and Artemis Technologies have completed the first phase of their partnership, announced in July 2024, and are now entering the construction and delivery stage for the Artemis EF-24 Passenger ferry, a zero (direct)-emissions electric foiling vessel. The ferry will reduce CO2e emissions by up to 4,150 tonnes annually when powered by renewable energy.
Stena Line launches second NewMax ro-ro
Stena Line has reached another major milestone in its NewMax fleet investment programme with a ceremony to mark the launch of STENA CONNECTA into the water at the China Merchants Jinling Shipyard, Weihai, China. To lower emissions, the ship will be capable of operating on methanol fuel, utilising both battery propulsion and shore power, and will be fitted with rotor sails.
STENA CONNECTA is one of two new ships due to serve the Belfast–Heysham route, a key trade corridor across the Irish Sea. Now that STENA CONNECTA has entered the water, the shipyard will continue with the installation of the interior.
The Grimaldi Group expands its network to India
The Grimaldi Group is continuing its global expansion by adding India to its maritime network. Starting this month, the company will be offering a regular service with two departures per month from Europe to the Indian subcontinent, further strengthening its presence in the Asian market.
The new route includes calls at key ports in Northern Europe and the Iberian Peninsula, with the following itinerary: Southampton – Antwerp – Bremerhaven – Setubal/Vigo – Mumbai. After reaching India, the ships will continue their journey to the Far East, calling at ports in Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and China. Additionally, the service will provide a monthly connection between India and major ports in the Persian Gulf, including Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
