NERTHUS out on sea trials

Danish Alslinjen's delayed new electric ferry NERTHUS has finally been out on sea trials at the Turkish Cemre Shipyard. NERTHUS and its sister TYRFING, destined for Samsølinjen, were initially planned to be put into operation in late summer 2024 and at the beginning of 2025, respectively.

The OSK Design-designed all-electric NERTHUS has battery capacity of 3.1 MWh and is destined for the Fynshav-Bøjden route.

Baleària and Axpo successfully carry out the first bioLNG operations at Enagás terminals

Baleària and Axpo Iberia have this week marked a new milestone by making the first supplies of bioLNG from the two Enagás terminals in Huelva and Barcelona a reality. The Huelva terminal provided supplies to the port of Malaga, where Baleària operates the route with Melilla with the RUSADIR ro-pax and from the Barcelona terminal, bioLNG was supplied to the fast ferry MARGARITA SALAS, which connects Barcelona with Mallorca and Menorca.

Casimir Lindholm appointed new CEO of Meyer Turku Oy

Casimir Lindholm has been appointed CEO of Meyer Turku Oy and will start his duties in the beginning of May 2025. Casimir Lindholm is currently President and CEO of Cargotec Oyj. He holds an M.Sc. (Econ) and an MBA degree. He has a long professional career as CEO in different companies such as Eltel and Lemminkäinen.

Casimir Lindholm will succeed Tim Meyer, who will join the Meyer Turku Oy Board of Directors in position of vice chair. This step is a part of a planned generational change, after Bernard Meyer handing over the chair position to Jaakko Eskola earlier this spring.

First of two Dumai Express-bound catamarans completes sea trials

The first of two new next-generation catamaran ferries for Dumai Express Group has completed sea trials and will shortly commence operations in Indonesia. The new 33-metre ferries build on the success of a fleet of first-generation 30-metre catamarans Incat Crowther designed for the Indonesian operator. The new models offer improved operational efficiency via an extended stern, bespoke hull form and customised propeller tunnel.

Red Funnel announces Neil Chapman as new Operations Director

Red Funnel has announced the appointment of a new Operations Director. Neil Chapman, (former MD of Hovertravel) will join the business in May 2025.

Baleària 2024 financial results

In 2024, Baleària generated an EBITDA of EUR 130 million, 11% more than the previous fiscal year, driven by the 6% increase in turnover, which stood at EUR 691 million. 5.6 million passengers were transported and 1.5 million vehicles, a growth of 8% and 10% respectively.

Seabourn announces sale of SEABOURN SOJOURN to Mitsui Ocean Cruises

Seabourn announced the sale of SEABOURN SOJOURN to Mitsui Ocean Cruises. Following the sale, Seabourn will charter the ship back from Mitsui Ocean Cruises and continue to operate all published voyages on SEABOURN SOJOURN through completion of its world cruise ending 15 May 2026. SEABOURN SOJOURN will be delivered to Mitsui Ocean Cruises after the charter period and upon handover, the ship will be deployed by its new owners in a market that is not competitive with Seabourn.

Wasaline reports its strongest February ever

Wasaline announced that this February has been the best February ever in terms of passenger numbers and freight. With a significant increase compared to the previous year. During the month, 16,415 passengers traveled with Wasaline, marking a 14.6% increase compared to the same period last year. At the same time, cargo volumes reached record levels for a single February month, with a total of 1,828 units transported - an 8% growth compared to February 2024.

KNUD E. HANSEN announces new Managing Director

On 1st March 2025, Denmark-based maritime consultancy KNUD E. HANSEN announced changes to its senior management structure. The move sees Javier Suárez succeeding Finn Wollesen Petersen as the company's Managing Director.

The move to the new management structure is part of a planned process that has been taking place over the past months. During this time, Javier and Finn have worked very closely together in order to facilitate a smooth transition.

Echandia secures SEK 220 million in new financing round
Echandia, the Swedish maritime battery system supplier, has closed a new funding round at SEK 220 million. The capital raised will be invested in Echandia's global expansion and production capabilities in Sweden and US. Expansion investments in the US market include the recently announced new production facility in Washington State where Echandia will produce its advanced maritime battery system.

Havila Voyages 2024 financial results

Havila Voyages' reported total revenues of NOK 1.529 billion in 2024, up from NOK 764 million in 2023. Operating profit reached NOK 219 million, compared to a negative operating result of NOK 180 million in 2023. The company also significantly exceeds the Norwegian authorities' emission requirements for the coastal route.

Irish Continental Group 2024 financial results

Irish Continental Group reported its 2024 financial results, showing ferry division revenues increased by 5.1% to EUR 433.5 million, with EBITDA increased by 2.7% to EUR 109.8 million. Ro-ro freight units increased by 6% to 767,200, transported cars with 9.5% to 707,300, and passengers with 10.1% to 3.06 million.

DFDS takes IOMSPC’s ARROW for a 12-month charter

Isle of Man Steam Packet Company has secured a long-term charter for its freight vessel ARROW. ARROW will operate in the Channel Islands, where it is already a familiar sight, for 12 months with DFDS.

It is expected the vessel will predominantly operate on the Jersey to Portsmouth route.

The charter arrangement will come into effect on 24th March. ARROW will undertake port trials and pilotage training before entering regular service.
