Molslinjen reshuffles summer fleet due to newbuild delays

The two delayed electric ferries from Cemre Shipyard, NERTHUS and TYRFING are forcing Molslinjen to swap out several ferries to make the summer cohesive on Samsø. In return, tickets will be cheap in the sailing schedule that has just been released for the rest of 2025.

The first electric ferry in Denmark is NERTHUS, which was built for Alslinjen. It is expected to be put into operation on 16 June 2025 – but on the Samsølinjen instead. Until then, the replacement ferry, FYNSHAV, will operate, which will make up to four daily double trips on the busiest days.

Rendering of DFDS' new Jersey ro-pax unveiled

At a meeting attended by 250 local business representatives on Jersey, DFDS revealed how the island's upcoming conventional ro-pax vessel might look. DFDS signed a 20-year contract with the Jersey government at the turn of the year, set to take effect on 28 March 2025. The contract covers routes from Jersey to Poole and Portsmouth in the UK, as well as the route between Jersey and Saint-Malo in France.

DFDS February volumes – passenger growth, freight decrease
Ferry – freight: Total volumes in February 2025 of 3.4m lane metres were 3.6% below 2024. North Sea volumes were below 2024 due to lower automotive volumes and a slowdown in food exports to the UK from the Continent. Mediterranean volumes were below 2024 as capacity was adjusted to the increased competition in one corridor.

Ferry – passenger: The number of passengers in February 2025 was 13.6% below 2024 and up 4.1% adjusted for the sale of Oslo-Frederikshavn-Copenhagen. The adjusted increase was driven by higher volumes on Strait of Gibraltar and Baltic Sea. The number of cars was 14.5% below 2024 and down 3.9% adjusted for route changes.

Muuga-Vuosaari ferry route gains popularity

In 2023, a total of 170,000 people traveled on the Muuga (Estonia)-Vuosaari (Finland) ferry line, but last year that number increased by 18% to 201,000 passengers. This was the highest percentage increase among all Port of Tallinn's regular ferry routes, setting an all-time record for the route. Of the travelers, 28% were Finnish citizens, and 22% were Estonian citizens.
